& thanx 4 the autopsy idea, unfortunately, i’m not even slightly mechanically-inclined.

the whole thing about not wanting it 2 end up in the landfill is this:

if i have this question, then thousands of people have the same question. think of 10’s or 100’s of 1000’s of shredders in the landfills year after year after year. it’s a bigger question than what just 2 do with my 1 broken machine.

going thru the manufacturer will cost as much as a new shredder, which is y i’m looking 4 shops or individuals who can probably fix the problem in minutes. if not, i would think that there is way it can be environmentally recycled. putting it in the trash & hoping 4 the best isn’t good enuf.

once we figure out how 2 solve the problem, the word can be spread, and 1000’s of pounds of pollution can be avoided.

last nite, my patient’s father offered 2 try 2 fix it. i’ll take him up on his offer & let u know.

Call the manufacturer and ask where it can be repaired, or, donate it to a homeless shelter, they probably have someone that can repair it.

I don’t own it, but you can find out more information throughout the web. Looks like it was released recently so my guess is that it has most of the newer cool features like that safesense thing.

We recently took a look at the HSM 5080cc Shredder/Baler Combo. Overall the machine is quite nice but I’ll let you be the judge after you see the pros and cons below. Always remember that the stated specs of a machine do not always translate precisely to a real-world environment.

Security

At a level 3 security, this cross-cut shredder gets the job done. Although there are higher levels of security, a level 3 machine provides a sufficiently small cut size to put your identity theft worries to bed. We also like the cross-cut because it takes up much less space which means that you won’t have to empty your bin as frequently as you would with a strip-cut machine. There is really no reason to jump up to a level 4 machine unless you have some ultra-sensitive documents you need destroyed.

Shredable Material

The HSM 5080cc Shredder/Baler Combo can shred CDs, Credit Cards, DVDs, Floppy Disks, Paper, Paper Clips, Staples. If you need to be able to shred something else then we recommend that you look at a larger machine and/or look for something with a little bit lower security (the higher the security the less likelihood that the machine shreds something other than paper).

Continuous Motor

HSM 5080cc Shredder/Baler Combo is rated for continuous operation. That means that theoretically you could shred all day long and the machine would not have to shut-down to cool off. Remember that results may vary under real-world operating conditions and things such as the temperature of the room will affect the ability of this motor to stay cool and continue to shred. We give this machine 2 pats on the back for being rated continuous duty and we know that you’ll appreciate this feature in due time.

Throat Size

A 19.7 inch throat means that you can fit just about anything into this bad boy. Gone are the days of folding your oversized paper or crumpling and jamming your machine with regular-sized paper. This guy gets 2 thumbs up for the often underestimated large throat size.

Auto Oiler

This machine does not come with an auto-oiler and does not have the option to have one installed. Although automatic oilers are not necessary to maintain your machine, they do take the guess-work out of maintenance.
